(Lepidium meyenii)
Once hoarded by the rulers of the Incan Empire for the sole use of the Royal court and their warriors. It is grown at very high elevations of the Andes Mountains in mineral rich, chemical free soil. Maca is a staple of the indigenous people of Peru's diet because of the high nutritional value of Maca that enables them to adapt to their harsh climate and altitude.

Maca is newly arrived in the United States from Peru, where it has been used for centuries for it's energy and libido boosting properties. Because it nourishes your entire glandular system, Maca improves bone density, combats chronic fatigue, sharpens mental clarity, improves everyday energy, and enhances athletic ability. This applies to women and men alike, because Maca is an adaptogen which works in harmony with both sexes, from children to old folks.  Herbs America MACA is set apart from other Maca products on the market today in that it contains no fillers or inert ingredients.

MACA only grows in on small region of the high Andes of central Peru, on bleak and barren plateaus at 15,000 feet, it is the highest cultivated crop in the world. It's also the only true Cruciferous crop of the Americas. It has been used as a food source by the indigenous peoples for the past 5800 years. The Spanish Conquistadors noted it's growth along side of potato by the India in the 16th century.

The Spanish exported MACA 21 years before the potato. It may in part be responsible for the flourishing of the Inca empire, both nutritiously and as an altitude adaptogen.Because it is the primary cultivated food source for the indigenous Andeans in the area, MACA must be very nutritious, both micro and macobiotically. It is rich in vitamins, mineral, fiber & protein and low in both calories and fat. It actually contains tow of the three essential fatty acids that your body requires as well as 7 of the 9 essential amino acids (17 overall). It contains no cholesterol and it also contains 5 natural sterols.

How Do You Eat MACA?

Traditionally in Peru the root is eaten like a potato, boiled and used in pudding, jams and drinks. In the West, MACA is available in capsules but it has not been validated at this dose. However, MACA is available as a high-quality affordable powder, for use in drinks and food....hot or cold, or as a tasty pasta.

MACA is available as a powder that can be conveniently added to your daily diet.

As they have for at least 10,000 years, Andean Indians from infants to grandparents, still thrive by consuming Maca almost every day in its many locally prepared forms. Maca is grown at extraordinarily high altitudes in mineral rich and chemical-free soil. The tuberous plant also benefits from the purest air, sunlight and rain in the world.

The herb's primary effect is on the body's endocrine system. This incorporates every gland in the body: the hypothalamus and pituitary govern the hormonal output of all other glands (the pancreas, adrenals, the thyroid and the ovaries in women and the testes in men). This translates to relief for women from symptoms of PMS and pre-and-post-menopausal problems, heightens the libido, increases the sperm count in men, fertility for women. In large measure, Maca eliminates the need for women to rely on drugs to replace depleted hormones.

Maca does not replace it restores your hormonal output!

It is well known that with increasing age, diminished hormone production can result in dramatic changes. Cellular aging appears as a decline in vitality, changes in skin tone and a loss of energy and vitality. It is important to understand that Maca does not replace your hormones. It works by nourishing and rejuvenating your endocrine system, restoring your ability to produce your own.

The Maca Root

Nutrition without Equal!

Less than 2 inches in diameter on average, the Maca root has been the single, most nutritious food staple in the daily diet of the hardy indigenous people in the Andes mountains in Southern Peru for at least 10,000 years!

Scientists have only recently recorded the extraordinary concentration of nutrients Maca provides. Several of these, strongly support Maca's historic reputation as an aphrodisiac for men and women. However, this attribute is merely the most “talked-about” among the broad spectrum of serious health considerations on which this old/new root extract is having a valuable effect.
